Shabby Chic Heart Wall Hanging

Lately I get so excited when I get a chance to finish a craft project. Like most artists and crafters, I have heaps of projects to complete. And the pile just keeps on growing!

I think I have figured out why it takes me so long to finish one creation. I usually make all my own little embellishments for my projects. So there's designing time, painting time, drying time, gluing time...and on and on.

Anyway, on to the shabby chic heart wall hanging.

I dyed some seam binding for the bow. Wrapped white floral tape around some wire and made little curly ques and adhered crystal beads to the ends. I made all the little pearl flower embellies, as well as, the paper rose. You really can't see the bling spray in the pictures, but I took thick fishing line and strung crystal and pearl beads along it, gluing them in place so they wouldn't slide. I even made the string of pearls....ok...not really...LOL!

I also made the stick pin and pearl dangle. I had so much fun making every thing for this heart.

Where does time go?

Oh my gosh, time has flown by this last year!  Not to mention, I hit a mile stone last month. I turned 50. OMG 50!!! How did that happen?

Let's see, where to start to do a fast update of the past year. Not a lot has happened, as we are very boring home bodies...lol.

This past summer we almost lost my hubby. He was taken in for emergency surgery for a herniated bowl blockage and during surgery he aspirated. The inside of his lungs got burned up from all the stomach acids and he was placed in an induced medical coma and placed on a ventilator for 4 loooong scary days. He spent another 11 days in the hospital recouping. We were really blessed! The doctors told us that only 1 out of 4 survive what happened to him.

The next big event was buying a house. We sold our last house and moved to the coast saying we were going to enjoy apartment living where we didn't have to do any maintenance and spend a lot of our free time on the beach. Here we are 5 years later buying a handyman fixer upper....ugh! Talk about time consuming...this is it!  lol.  Really, it is a great house with awesome potential. It looks like a small little cottage from the front, but it is huge. Almost 2000 square feet.

With no curb appeal! That will take a little bit of time. I invision a country cottage garden, a porch swing on one side of the porch and a sitting area on the other side. I need to focus on the inside first.

The first thing I've tackled so far is the outdated kitchen cabinets. As we can't afford to rip them out at this time, I decided to give them a good sanding and do a very labor intensive distressing technique. Never did I think it would take as long as it did! Hubby removed the built in ovens and stove top. We installed all new stainless appliances...yay! So far we just have the cabinets done.

Cabinets before

Cabinets after
Can you tell I'm just a bit of a shabby country gal? lol. These look so much better in person.

Next to tackle is installing the butcher block counter tops and back splash tiles.

Now on to a couple crafty projects I've completed. First is a twine star. I'm sorry I don't remember who I got the idea from to give them credit.
I glued craft sticks together in the shape of a star. Once dried, I glue some twine to create a hanging hoop then began wrapping the start shape.
I continued wrapping and wrapping adding glue to hold it every few wraps until it was done. Then hung it up.
It measures approximately 16 inches.

Next, I made two rag garland banners to drape over the windows in the craft room. Each measures just over 3 feet long. I cut my fabric in 2 x 22 inch strips. I absolutely LOVE them!
A reveal of my crafty space will come once I have it all put together.

If you are still following along after my year long break....THANKS! hopefully I will start keeping up better.

Paintings

Hey my bloggy friends....I have not fallen off the face of the earth...yet anyways...LOL. I can't believe I have not done any posting since November...where has the time gone again?

I haven't been doing any scrapbooking, I lost my scrappy mojo for the time being, which I thought would never happen. So, what have I been doing? painting. I have always done the fun whimsical paintings, though I have always wanted to try a more realistic look, so I began doing research looking for techniques. I came across 3 good instructors that I have learned a lot from, who all say "anyone can paint". Brandon Schaefer, Darrell Crow, and Wilson Bickford. I am no where near their level of artistry, as I have A LOT to learn, however, I am happy with my paintings.

These are painted with acrylics on stretched canvas or canvas boards.

Thanks for sticking with me during my bloggy drought, and thanks for stopping by!

The Holiday Hop at Sketch~N~Scrap. Have you been following along each day? Today is my turn to feature my project that I created for the hop. I chose Halloween as my holiday to represent. I love Halloween. Which is surprising since I'm a big scardy cat of all things creepy and crawly.

I decided on a mixed media canvas. (see the video link below)

I really had a good time creating this. I actually have a good time creating anything that includes getting my hands dirty...LOL. To see step by step on how I created this, be sure to check out my video HERE.

Now, on to the prize. I am giving away a Freshly Picked Cricut cartridge.

However, there is a certain requirement to be eligible to win. You must play along with any of the October sketches from Sketch~N~Scrap. Then come back here and post what number your entry is under in this posts comment section. I will be picking and announcing a winner November 1st.  Good Luck!

Spooky/SNS

Yep, it's that time again. Time for another sketch reveal from Sketch~N~ Scrap.

the sketch

 my take

Of course if you play along, you do not have to make it Halloween themed to qualify for the prize.

Dax made the cutest spooky skeleton last Halloween. He looked like he was a decoration when he leaned back against the tree.

The pumpkin is an svg cutting file from BirdsCards. The skeleton was a freebie from I can't remember where. I cut him and the spider web out of white vinyl. I aslo cut the title from vinyl using a dripping marker font. For the journaling bones, in SCAL I took a rectangle and heart shapes and union'ed them together, then stretched them to the size I wanted.

I hope you get a chance to play along. Also, be sure to check out the card sketches on the 5th and 20th of every month.

Day 8: P.A.D

I have been sick, so that is the reason for a lack of a project for the past few days. I was feeling better this morning and surfed the web for some inspiration. I ran across Birds Cards new post of a pumpkin treat bag cutting file. I thought they would be cute to make for Dax's class for Halloween.

Here are a couple I have done so far. Now, just 22 more to make...LOL

(sorry for the glare of the flash)

Birds Cards has some awesome free cutting files, as well as, free digi stamps and other things.

Day 4: P.A.D

Today's Project A Day project is the start of a mini album. I only had time to get the cover done today.

I'm using Simple Stories Smarty Pants collection for this mini. This is going to be an album of Dax's school pictures, beginning with Pre K and going through 12th grade. Now, he is only in 1st grade, I sure hope it doesn't take me 11 years to finish it...LOL!

P.A.D Day 2 & Day 3

Time got away from me yesterday and I didn't get my Project A Day project upload here to my blog. I was beginning to think I was going to run out of time today too...lol

Day 2: DIY Photo Canvas
Sorry for the poor photo and the streaks. I was trying to get it all finished yesterday and couldn't wait for the mod podge to dry.  I made a step by step video of how I made this.

for some reason, I couldn't get the video to embed here.

Day 3: Painted Frames

I didn't have a chance to make a step by step today. I hope to add it at a later time.
I bought these framed from Walmart in the craft section for 4.98. They were bare wood. I designed a stencil in SCAL and cut it out of contact paper on the Cricut machine. Then painted then removed the contact paper.
These are going in my bathroom also. I haven't gotten any photos in them yet. I need to find something. Hey, maybe I could get my super talented scrappy friend Danni to color me some images....hmmmmm   LOL

Day 1:October 2013 P.A.D

I was really excited about participating in Oct 2013 Project A Day, an event on facebook. I got right up and got busy on my project.

For today's project I decided on an altered candle. I am redoing the main little bathroom and I decided to make some decor. I have had this beat up candle literally for years. It needed to go in the trash bin, or get a much needed makeover.  Guess the makeover won out. I think it turned out super cute.

Here is a step by step

It started out as a green candle

Since it is for decoration only and I have
no intentions of burning it, I gave it a
couple coats of grey acrylic paint.

I picked out a few papers from my
stash that fits into my color scheme.

I wrapped them around the candle and glued
the edges together. Then added some canvas
twine to finish it off.  I also painted the brass
candle holder white so it would fit in better.

Big Nose/SNS

WOW....where did September go? I swear, I need to stop blinking. As a new month begins, it brings with it a new sketch from Sketch~N~Scrap.

my take

I used Simple Stories Say Cheese collection. Though it is mostly geared towards Disney, it has a lot of fun elements in it for non Disney projects. I love the colors in the collections.

As always, be sure to go check out what the other design team members created. And get your entry  posted for your chance at the prize from this months sponsor.

Project A Day

My friend Kim (yes...i have one or two of them...lol) is hosting a Project A Day challenge the month of October over on Facebook. This is a "for fun" only challenge, so not a lot of rules. It can be any type of project, scrapbook, card making, painting, furniture redo, sewing. Any ole project, as long as you worked on it that day....well except for laundry...LOL!

Doesn't this sound fun? I know I have a whole big list of projects I have been meaning to do, so I jumped at the chance to join in. What about you, wanna join in on the fun?  If so, just leave me a comment on this post with your email address and I will get you added to the Facebook group. I think it is going to be a lot of fun seeing what everyone gets accomplished on a daily basis. Not to mention the inspiration that will be gathered from all the fantastic projects.

Also, if you would like to help spread the word, please grab the badge from my side bar -------->>> to display on your blog.

Hope to see you there!

24 Hour/TPE

I was so glad that Kristie picked Studio Calico's Yearbook collection for me to use in the 24 Hour Challenge in the yahoo group Scrappin-N-Chattin.  It worked perfectly with The Pink Elephant's challenge this week, which is "Back2School" themed.

Rain Drops/SNS

Really?....it's September already?  I remember my mom telling me (and then me telling my kids). Enjoy being a kid, once you grow up time just flies by! She sure wasn't kidding!

With a new month comes a new set of sketches over at Sketch~N~Scrap. As always, the first one goes live on the first of each month.  I hope you love working with their sketches as much as I do.

Here is September 1st sketch

I don't work a lot with multi photo layouts. I seem to try to focus on one or two photos, and use multi photos for mini albums. So when I do use multi photos, it always challenges me.

Here is my take on the sketch

On a rare occasion here in south Texas, we get some rain. I love when it happens on a warm summers day. My grandkids, Dax and Josslyn loved it too, as they couldn't get out the door fast enough when I asked them if they wanted to go out and play in the rain.
There are a few things that I myself never seem to out grow. Playing in the rain, coloring, and playing with Play Doh.  LOL

I hope you get a chance to play along with us at Sketch~N~Scrap. In the mean time, be sure to head over and check out what the other designers created with the sketch.
