Shabby Accents Blog Hop

Welcome to the Shabby Accents Blog Hop! Thanks for joining us!

The shabby chic style has been around for many many years, originating from Great Britain, where time worn items were showcased in most country homes. Today’s essence of shabby chic is to achieve that time worn layered vintage look from yesteryear by painting, distressing, dying or tea staining. Now we bring it to you right from our craft tables.

Please follow along as the following crafters showcase their handmade Shabby Chic Accents. Be sure to visit each blog, as each artist will be having a giveaway. Also, we have a couple of awesome sponsors who have generously donated for a “Grand Prize Giveaway”. Their shops are full of shabby goodness. To qualify, all you have to do is become a follower if not already and leave a comment on each blog stating you are a follower, or have become one.

Now on to my project

I decided to make a mini album. This lil mini measures 5 x 5 and is VERY chunky. I will have a tutorial soon on how to make and bind the book.
I designed the bird cage in Inkscape then cut it on my Cricut using SCAL. I cut it 4 times and adhered them together for thickness. I then coated it in a think coat of gesso. Once dried, I inked it all over then wiped away some of the ink before it dried. I love how it turned out.
A while back, I picked up a vintage wedding dress at one of the local second hand shops. I bought it for the sole purpose of tearing it apart and re-purpose it. On the binding, I added one of the many appliques I removed from the dress.
For the closure, I cut a length of chain, painted it white, then added some beads and charms.I secured one end with a jump ring, and the other with a lobster claw closure..
For more details, and to see the inside of the album, please watch the video below

Here is what I have up for grabs
Be sure to leave a comment on this post to be in the drawing

Leap at TPV

Time for another great challenge over at The Paper Variety.  It's a photo inspiration challenge. I love these challenges, there are so many ways to pull inspiration from a photo. Here is the photo.

I was inspired by all the green and of course the word LEAP. I thought of a picture I had of Dax and my great nephew Thomas playing Leap Frog.

I made the leaping frogs in Inkscape based on a coloring page. I think they turned out really cute.

I also drew up the cat tails in Inkscape.

The grass is from a border swap I participated in with the yahoo group Scrappin-N-Chattin. Sorry, I can't remember from whom I received it.

Now leap on over to TPV. The sponsor for this challenge is Apron Strings Designs, with this great prize.

Giving Daddy Love

This is the second layout I have made so far during the scrappy group Scrappin-N-Chattin's Weekend Crop.

For this layout, I used the sketch from Boys Rule. I learned of this challenge blog from my scrappy friend Abby, who is currently on their design team.

I am also entering it in Frosted Designs challenge, which is "LOVE". They want to see some love on your project. Pin It

Where Did Your Hair Go?

I am having a fun weekend. The scrappy group Scrappin-N-Chattin now has a blog for its members to meet up to crop, and we can chat as well. Several of us are posting challenges and offering prizes. Everyone has been very productive. Well, other than me. I'm a very slow scrapper and I have only completed two layouts so far. Here is one of them.

I love this picture of my grand daughter Rachel with her little friends. It looks like they are in a deep conversation. Rachel is the smallest "bald" baby. LOL
This layout fits into the Paper Piecing Challenge over at Casual Fridays. I made the fan fold rosettes following my scrappy friend Sandi's tutorial. You can see it here.
